General information

Ukraine is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Europe. Our country is really unique with picturesque nature, numerous historical places of interest, mountains on the West and washed by two seas on the South.

Location

Ukraine is located in the south-eastern part of Central Europe and borders with Russia, Byelorussia, Moldova, Slovakia, Roumania, Hungary and Poland on land and Russia, Georgia, Bulgaria, Roumania and Turkey on sea. The area of Ukraine is 603 628 sqm. It is around 5,7% form the the whole area of Europe.

Climate

The climate in Ukraine is characterized by abundant precipitation and cloudy skies, especially in fall and winter. The average temperature in winter is around – 7 Сº and in summer 20 Сº. The temperature oh the Crimea peninsula in winter is not lower than 1 Сº and in summer is around 23 Сº.

Population

The population of the country is around 46,5 mln. of people. Majority are - Ukrainians (over 77%). The most numerous national minority are Russians, Romanians Moldavians, Belorussians, Crimean Tatars, Bulgarians, Hungarians, Poles and Jews.

Religion

The religion of majority population in Ukraine - is orthodox and catholic.

Language

State language - is Ukrainian. Numerous people speak also Russian, less – Polish and English.

Political system

Ukraine is a republic. The legislative power belongs to the parliament that is called “Verkhovna Rada.” The deputies are elected by secret elections all over the country. The parliament - the Verhovna Rada is the only body of the legislative power in Ukraine. There are 450 peoples deputies who are elected for a term of four years on the basis of universal, equal suffrage by the secret ballot. The President of Ukraine is the head of the state and speaks on behalf of it. He is elected directly by the voters for a term of five years with no more then two full terms. The highest body of the executive power is the Cabinet of Ministers. It is responsible to the President and is accountable to the Verhovna Rada. 

Currency

The currency in Ukraine is the Hryvnia (UAH). There are notes of 1, 2, 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, 200 and 500 Hryvnias. 
You have an opportunity to exchange your currancy into Hryvnias in every bank. Credit card servicing is available - American Express, MasterCard и Visa.

Visa system

At the current moment Ukraine provides both types: non-visa and visa regime. 
No invitation is needed for making a visa for travelers from the countires of EU, Canada, Slovakia, USA, Turkey, Switzerland and Japan. 
Non-visa regime is provided for travelers from Azerbaijan, Belgium, Belarus, Bulgaria, Armenia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Mongolia, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. The travelers form these countries need only traveling passport. 

Non-visa regime for less than 90 days is provided for travelers from: Austria, Andorra, Belgium, Bulgaria, Vatican, UK, Hungary, Greece, Denmark, Estonia, Ireland, Iceland, Spain, Italy, Canada, Cyprus, Korea, Latvia, Lithuania, Liechtenstein, Luxemburg, Malta, Monaco, the Netherlands, Germany, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Rumania, Slovakia, Slovenia, USA, Finland, France, Czech Republic, Switzerland, Sweden, Japan.

The border crossing rules 

For arriving to Ukraine the traveler should have a travelling passport и visa document (if necessary). Not allowed transportng the antiques, pieces of ancience, dangerous chemical substances, drugs and weapon. You should declare all your photo and video devices.

Transport system

All types of transport are presented in Ukraine: raiway, planes and cars transporting system. 
Air transportation is represented on the market of Ukraine by: Delta, Lufthansa, British Air, Austrian Air, Malev (Hungary), CSA (Czech Republic), LOT (Poland), ТransAero, KLM, SwissAirline, Air France, SAS and others. The biggest airports of the country: Boryspil (Kiev), Kharkiv, Donetsk, Dnepropetrovsk, Odessa, Vinnitsa, Lviv, Lugansk, Zaporizhya, Simferopol, Cherovtsy, Herson, Nikilaev, Ivano-frankivsk.
